U-M Backbone Interconnect Network (UMBIN)

The UMBIN interconnects the three main campus backbone networks to the state network (Merit) and beyond to the Internet and to private educational and research networks.

UMBIN and the UMnet Backbone, the largest of the three backbone networks, are managed and operated by UMnet Administration. The other two backbone networks are the CAEN (Computer Aided Engineering Network) Backbone operated by the College of Engineering and the UMHS (U-M Health System) Backbone operated by MCIT (Medical Center Information Technology).

Circuits to the UMBIN are 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GE). The supported protocol is Internet Protocol (IP).
